Taos Amateur Radio Club Minutes of the Meeting on June 10, 2026

OPD, 107 Civic Plaza Drive, Taos, NM 87571 Potluck started at 5:30pm. Thanks to everybody for bringing food. Meeting began at 6:20 with Donovan (K2AH) presiding.

  1. Sign-in with 13 members present.

  2. Guest and Member Introductions, call signs and first name. With a new member and newer Ham present, a discussion was had about Vanity callsigns.

  3. Approval of May 13, 2026, meeting minutes was not made.

  4. A Motion was made to approve the agenda for tonight’s meeting was made by Randy (AG5QC) and seconded by Greg (KF5TTO).

  5. Approval of the Treasurer’s Report by Ed (KF5EIG) Expense summary, balance.

    a. Ed (KF5EIG) noted the balance is $17244.97, with most of the expenses being the normal reoccurring expenses. The ledger will be posted on the Shack Bulletin board, and he is available for any questions members may have. Donvan (K2AH) noted that there will be upcoming insurance payments due for equipment. A motion to approve mas made by Mike (NM5MK) and seconded by Tim (W5TNM).

  6. Donovan (K2AH) made the President’s remarks:

    a. A special thanks went out to Mike (KI6KGC) for handling the certificates for the recent NM QSO Party. Mike (KI6KGC) updated the club on our standing for the QSO party and explained the new rules for operating at home and getting credit for the Club. Mike further updated the Club on his Parks on the Air Activation at the Rio Grande Del Norte National Monument (Gorge Bridge) earlier in the day. He made over 100 contacts on 20 meters from all over the country.

    b. The first Town of Taos Concert will be held on Friday, June 19th at Red Willow Park, with Gregory Alan Isakov, and all members who are interested are urged to assist. A discussion has held about the process, and how it benefits the club and the Town. The next concert will be on July 4th , with the Mavericks.

    c. ARRL Field Day event will be held at Red Willow Park on June 27th with the club providing some food, with members requested to bring potluck Items. The time will be 8:00 am to 2 PM. Folks are asked to bring out whatever radio equipment they wish to bring and test and use. The club will have Club Shack in a Box radio.

  7. New Business:

    a. Saturday, June 16th will be an Exam Session at OPD, with two people who have already signed up to take the exam. VE’s will be needed. After the event, club members will be marking and pricing club equipment that will be available for purchase by members at Field Day. Mike (KI6KGC) suggested having a raffle for some of the equipment.

    b. Donovan (K2AH) requested input from club members on Tech Topics that can be presented at the monthly meetings, or on Saturdays during the month, with possibility of using the second Saturday of the month. Input from members was requested.

  8. Old Business:

    a. There was no update on Grant(s) as Keith (K5FS) was not present.

    b. There was no ARES and repeater update from Brian (NB5R), as he was not present. Donovan (K2AH) explained the passbook process and FEMA classes for members present. He further recounted the events that the club participated in over the last several years. Tim (W5TNM) recounted the number of volunteer hours the club has accumulated over the last several years, and the various ways Volunteer Hours are accumulated and counted.

  9. A technical presentation/conversation will be held by Ed (KF5EIG) after the close of the meeting on some Mesh/LORA items.

  10. The Business Meeting was closed by a motion from Randy (AG5QC) and seconded by Greg (KF5TTO).
