Taos Amateur Radio Club Minutes of the Meeting on July 08, 2026

OPD, 107 Civic Plaza Drive, Taos, NM 87571 Potluck started at 5:30pm. Thanks to everybody for bringing food. Meeting began at 6:10 with Donovan (K2AH) presiding.

  1. Sign-in with 14 members present.

  2. Guest and Member Introductions, call signs and first name.

  3. Approval of May 13, 2026, meeting minutes was not made.

  4. A Motion was made to approve the agenda for tonight’s meeting was made by Randy (AG5QC) and seconded by Aaron (N4IMB).

  5. Approval of the Treasurer’s Report by Ed (KF5EIG) Expense summary, balance.

    a. Ed (KF5EIG) noted the club is still solvent with a balance of $16,658.96, with most of the expenses being the normal reoccurring expenses. The ledger will be posted on the Shack Bulletin board, and he is available for any questions members may have. A discussion was held concerning normal cost of insurance for equipment at the various repeater locations.

    b. A motion to approve the Treasurer’s report was made by John (WB5Q) and seconded by Mike (NM5MK).

  6. Donovan (K2AH) made the President’s remarks:

    a. There was FCC License Exam Session on June 13, 2026, with one General and one Technician class passing. John (WB5Q) asked about outreach for future licensing to local public service employees, and Donovan (K2AH) explained the challenges and breadth of doing such. Various members present suggested ideas for outreach to increase testing and future membership.

    b. A recap of the ARRL Field Day, June 27, 2026 was held, with various members present giving experiences, suggestions for expanding future event participation, social media possibilities, advertising and signage, etc. An additional conversation was held about how other clubs around the country operate Field Day.

    c. Donovan (K2AH) gave a recap of the Town of Taos Concert Events, June 19th & July 4th and thanked members who participated. The next event will be Fiestas Celebration, held at the Town Plaza, and Donovan (K2AH) explained the process and resources from the club needed to help with the event with help primarily needed for Thursday and Sunday getting vendors in and out.

  7. New Business:

    Donovan (K2AH) noted that there will be a Local Emergency Management Exercise (Simulated Hazmat Event) held at Red Willow Park on July 22nd, beginning around 10:00 am, and TARC was invited to participate or observe. There will be further events happening in August, including CPR training classes.

Donovan (K2AH) requested input from club members on Tech Topics that can be presented at the monthly meetings, as none has been requested this far.

  1. Old Business:

    Keith (K5FS) gave a Grant and ARES update as well as explanation of federal legislation, and local proposed Zoning Changes that are in the works. He also explained a possible ARES opportunity for the HAM community, based on a recent ARRL QST published articles. He indicated that he would pursue Grant money for the Club, as well as school efforts, focusing on the Public Service sector. He indicated he would be sending out letters to the Club, informing. He further explained various ham bands, required equipment and assets needed to expand ARES support.

  2. There was no ARES and repeater update from Brian (NB5R), as he was not present. Donovan (K2AH) noted that all the local repeaters appeared to be operational, and that Brian (NB5R) was still working on a repeater in the Red River area.

  3. The next Town of Taos Concert will be on August 22, 2026.

  4. The Business Meeting was closed by a motion from Tim (W5TNM) and seconded by Mike (KI6KGC).
